White House attacks Trump over connections to Russia and RT
calls on Electoral College members to vote against Trump? President Barack Obama’s spokesman accused President-elect Trump and top members of his team of “lucrative” ties with Russia.
Possible Suprise December 19? The 538 members of the Electoral College are slated to meet in their state capitals on Dec. 19
Electors demand intelligence briefing before Electoral College vote on Dec 19 –
– first show of public support for efforts questioning the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s victory, Hillary Clinton’s –
538 members of the Electoral College are to meet in their state capitals on Dec. 19 to vote for president. Trump won the popular vote in states that carried 306 electors, while Clinton won states that include 232 electors. Anti-Trump forces are working to persuade at least 37 Republican electors to reject Trump, which would block his immediate election and send the final decision to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
The Electoral College Vote
On December 12, Ten Grand College electors of whom only one is a Republican released an “open letter” to the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper requesting information about ongoing investigations on ties between Trump and “Russian government interference in the election.” The letter (released on social social media was written by Christine Pelosi, the daughter of Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
The open letter “seeking the release of U.S. intelligence on possible foreign interference in the election” was also signed by the four Democratic presidential electors in New Hampshire.
Podesta describes the initiative as “bipartisan”, intimating that Trump is “sleeping with enemy”:
“Our campaign decried the interference of Russia in our campaign and its evident goal of hurting our campaign to aid Donald Trump,… Despite our protestations, this matter did not receive the attention it deserved by the media in the campaign. We now know that the CIA has determined Russia’s interference in our elections was for the purpose of electing Donald Trump. This should distress every American.” (quoted by Politico, December 12, 2016)
The fake Moscow interference in the US elections is being used as a propaganda ploy to shift the Electoral College vote in favour of Clinton on December 19th.
Sofar these efforts seem to have failed. But there is more than meets the eye.
A December 19 surprise should not be excluded.
Both factions representing powerful corporate interests are working behind the scenes. The public is not being informed.
The Clinton faction will do its utmost to reverse the vote of the Electoral College.
On Monday, ten electors, primarily Democrats, released an open letter to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about their “concerns” that Russia was involved in helping Trump win the election.
“The United States intelligence community has now concluded with “high confidence” that a foreign power, namely Russia, acted covertly to interfere in the presidential campaign with the intent of promoting Donald Trump’s candidacy,” the letter from the electors stated. “During the campaign Russia actively attempted to influence the election outcome through cyber attacks on our political institutions and a comprehensive propaganda campaign coordinated through WikiLeaks and other outlets.”
What happens on Dec. 19?
The 538 members of the Electoral College officially pick the president. The electors meet in each state and Washington, D.C. When people vote for president on Election Day, they are actually voting for a slate of electors. The electors are chosen by the political parties in each state; the presidential candidate who wins the most votes in a state is supposed to get all of the state’s electoral votes
Why the controversy in the lead up to this year’s Electoral College vote?
Many people want the electors to vote for someone other than Donald Trump. A Change.org petition, signed by more than 4.8 million people, calls the Republican „unfit to serve“ and urges the Electoral College members to vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton. Electors say they have been flooded with phone calls, emails and letters from people who think they should not vote for Trump.
Is there any chance someone other than Trump would be elected when the college convenes?
But election experts consider it highly unlikely that enough electors – bound or unbound – would vote for someone other than their state’s winner. Multiple election experts told FactCheck.org that it was constitutionally possible for Clinton to win, but pegged the chance of that happening as very low.
