US senators promise to act against Trump on Russia ties (PressTV)

US senators say they would counter incoming President Donald Trump if he moves to establish warm relations with Russia.

Lawmakers from both political parties would like Trump to rein in Russia, but they are also willing to take unilateral measures if necessary, according to an analysis by congressional newspaper The Hill.

“We cannot sit on the sidelines as a party and let allegations against a foreign government interfering in our election process go unanswered because it may have been beneficial to our case for the moment,” Senator Lindsey Graham said.

The South Carolina Republican said he was planning a multi-pronged approach, which would include helping allies in Eastern Europe counter Russia and holding a series of congressional hearings to highlight Russian “misadventures.”

Graham’s closest ally, Republican Senator John McCain, warned Trump last week against another “reset” of US-Russia relations, accusing President Vladimir Putin of “tyranny” and “murder.”

“With the US presidential transition underway, Vladimir Putin has said in recent days that he wants to improve relations with the United States,” the Arizona senator said after the first phone conversation between Trump and the Russian leader.

“We should place as much faith in such statements as any other made by a former KGB agent who has plunged his country into tyranny, murdered his political opponents, invaded his neighbors, threatened America’s allies, and attempted to undermine America’s elections.”

The increased pressure from the Senate comes as the House of Representatives passed legislation that would impose sanctions on the government of Syria and its supporters, including Russia and Iran.

Lawmakers have for years accused President Barack Obama of not being firm enough against Putin in the face of Russia’s “aggression” in Ukraine and more recently its air campaign in Syria.

They are now even more concerned with Trump who has openly praised the Russian president and called him a much stronger leader than Obama.

Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California and ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, expressed concern about the appointment of controversial former Army general Michael Flynn as Trump’s national security adviser.

„I am deeply concerned about his views on Russia, which over the last 12 months have demonstrated the same fondness for the autocratic and belligerent Kremlin which animate President-elect Trump’s praise of Vladimir Putin,“ Schiff said.

Senator Ben Cardin, Democrat of Maryland, echoed that concern on Friday, saying he is “disturbed by General Flynn’s relationships and ties with Russian actors.”

“There are Democrats and Republicans that are, I think most members of Congress, that are very concerned about Russia’s activities and how we try to reconcile that with statements that Donald Trump made during the course of his campaign,” said Cardin, who is the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

On Sunday, Putin said Trump had confirmed to him he was willing to mend ties with Russia. „The president-elect confirmed he is willing to normalize Russian-American relations. I told him the same.“

Trump’s campaign had been hit with many controversies since its inception in early 2015. But the real estate tycoon still managed to stun the world by defeating the heavily-favored Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, in the November 8 election.

Trump will take office as the 45th US president in January.

Rescue operation conducted by Syrian, Russian militaries in east Aleppo

The Syrian and Russian militaries conducted a heroic operation this weekend to rescue two families trapped in jihadist-controlled east Aleppo.

Using Russian technological advances, the two militaries were able to pinpoint the location of these two families and sneak past enemy lines to rescue the civilians.

Footage of this east Aleppo operation was captured by the Russian media this weekend; this video can be seen below.

Civilians in east Aleppo have been restricted from leaving their besieged neighborhoods by the jihadist rebels, despite claims by the U.S. State Department that the Russian and Syrian government’s are behind this humanitarian crisis.

Translation for the vdeo below:

Syrian government representatives organised a welcoming ceremony for two civilian families who had managed to flee to the government controlled western parts of Aleppo from the opposition-held eastern districts of the city, Saturday.

SOT, Civilian (Arabic): „It is very difficult to live there under the blockade. There is no food, no water. There is no rice, no lentils, no grains. It is impossible to imagine how difficult it is there. Life is like hell. A kilogram of rice costs 1,000 Liras. It is impossible to live this way, so we decided to leave. To get out of there at all costs. Here is a state, security, you can live, work, and there is no life there – only death. We could not keep on living there.“

SOT, Civilian (Arabic): „Before I found myself blocked here, I was there. There the terrorists tell the people that the army will lead you to prison and so on. Previously, I was here and said that nothing had happened to me. Certainly, if you are an offender and if there are some allegations against you, then yes. But if you respect yourself, your country, your army, no one will come for you, you will be safe. I said this to everyone there, and I think that they – terrorists – wanted to arrest me.“

SOT, Civilian (Arabic): „It was very difficult to leave. We decided to leave because it was very difficult to live there. We were oppressed there, there was no food, ourselves and the army were blamed. The terrorists have no understanding of what a blockade is. They have everything for themselves, for their families, they get assistance, the representatives of international organisations also have everything. Only civilians have nothing. They are under a real blockade. They say if you want to get a bowl of rice – go to the front and fight. That is their attitude towards us. That is why we were forced to leave. Thanks Allah, the Syrian Army welcomed us, Russian soldiers, we left that place, thank Allah, everyone is alive.“

For Washington, Destroying Syria is a Bipartisan Agenda – by Tony Cartalucci

With a new president coming into office, hopes for a break in the Syrian conflict are abound. However, these hopes are likely misplaced. Recent US designs for the destruction of Syria began unfolding, not during the administration of US President Barack Obama, but in fact during the presidency of George Bush, and were merely continued, and clearly expanded upon under President Obama.

Pundits and policymakers on both the “left” and “right” of the Western political spectrum have made arguments for continued, even expanded US war with Syria, simply behind the smokescreen of varying partisan narratives. In the end, however, the Middle Eastern nation’s overthrow – and failing that – its incremental and systematic division and destruction, remains Washington’s ultimate endgame.

Friendly with Putin, War against Muslims: Trump Picks General Michael Flynn as National Security Advisor – by Stephen Lendman

Media reports indicated Trump chose him. It’s unclear if he accepted. Likely so as otherwise consideration of him for the position would have been kept under wraps.

We’ll know either way soon. The Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (NSA) needs no Senate confirmation.

Duties involve advising the president on national security issues – specifically domestic, foreign, and military policies, along with assuring cooperation between military branches and civilian intelligence agencies.

The 1947 National Security Act established the National Security Council, the NSA its head, the legislation also creating the CIA, America’s first peacetime intelligence agency, succeeding the wartime OSS, dissolved in 1945..

The late Chalmers Johnson once said America “will never again know peace, nor in all probability survive very long as a nation, unless we abolish the CIA, restore intelligence collecting to the State Department, and remove all but purely military functions from the Pentagon.”

He called the CIA the president’s praetorian guard, a private army operating extrajudicially, unaccountable to Congress or the public, menacing fundamental freedoms.

Flynn’s appointment as NSA is worrisome, if he accepts, as appears likely – a known Islamophobe, forced to resign as Obama’s Defense Intelligence Agency director, earlier calling “radical Islamism” a “cancer.”

He wants these elements eliminated without acknowledging America created and supports them, saying “(w)e will win the global war against radical Islamists.”

Last March, he lied, claiming “Brussels is their battlefield. Paris is their battlefield. San Bernardino is their battlefield” – all false flags, along with similar incidents in America and Europe, innocent patsies blamed for state-sponsored crimes.

“I’ve been at war with Islam” for decades, said Flynn, adding “fear of Muslims is rational.” Post-9/11, he was involved in torture and other disturbing practices.

He suggested killing family members of suspected terrorists is acceptable. Investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill said

“(a)long with Gen. Stanley McChrystal and Adm. William McRaven, Flynn was the embodiment of Donald Rumsfeld’s view that the world is the battlefield.”

In Iraq and Afghanistan, he “and JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command) waged secret wars with the broader conventional wars and dramatically expanded the pace of night raids.”

Flynn as NSA “means that a very sophisticated, accomplished assassin could end up in a position of tremendous authority.”

At the same time, he’s friendly with Vladimir Putin, hostile to Iran, and according to Program on Peace-building and Rights director David Phillips, he reportedly lobbied for Turkish President Erdogan, raising “ethical concerns, cast(ing) doubt on his suitability for public office.”

“We’re in a world war,” said Flynn. But very few Americans recognize it, and fewer still have any idea how to win it.”

Appointing him NSA, if he accepts, isn’t an encouraging sign, suggesting Trump’s administration intends continued war on Islam – instead of ending what never should have begun.

Trump Inauguration Day Protests Planned – by Stephen Lendman

Protesting Trump’s inauguration misses the point. I’ve explained many times. America’s criminal class is bipartisan, democracy pure fantasy.
Deep state duopoly power runs things – one-party state governance with two right wings, independents entirely shut out. Media scoundrels are press agents for wealth, power and privilege exclusively.
Election-rigging made Trump president. Power brokers decided Hillary was too scandal-ridden to serve effectively. Her deplorable public record defeated her.
Will Trump continue dirty business as usual or go his own way? Likely more of the former, less of the latter – with at least three reasons to be relieved he won.
Hillary in power risked unthinkable nuclear war on Russia. Trump wants more normalized bipartisan relations, both countries cooperating in waging war on terrorism.
Hillary is a longstanding Wall Street/war-profiteers’ tool. Billionaire Trump IS a monied interest, less beholden to other ones, hopefully more able to operate outside the box in some respects.
He calls NATO “obsolete…costing us a fortune.” He won’t end America’s dominant role, wants other nations sharing a greater burden, perhaps changing the alliance’s role.
Hopefully he means less war, focusing mainly on defeating the scourge of terrorism. A good thing, using his language.
Inauguration day and other anti-Trump protests are planned, orchestrated and implemented by elements not wanting their involvement revealed – Machiavellian dark forces infamous for dirty tricks, tactics serving their interests.
The hashtag #DisruptJ20 is being used as a rallying cry to protest Trump’s January 20 inauguration. Are paid demonstrators involved? Controlling elements called for blocking his “peaceful transition.”
People nationwide are being asked to get involved, a #DisruptJ20 statement saying:
“Friday, January 20, 2017, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President of the United States. We call on all people of good conscience to join in disrupting the ceremonies.”
“If Trump is to be inaugurated at all, let it happen behind closed doors, showing the true face of the security state Trump will preside over. It must be made clear to the whole world that the vast majority of people in the United States do not support his presidency or consent to his rule.”
“Trump stands for tyranny, greed, and misogyny. He is the champion of neo-nazis and white Nationalists, of the police who kill the Black, Brown and poor on a daily basis, of racist border agents and sadistic prison guards, of the FBI and NSA who tap your phone and read your email.”
“He is the harbinger of even more climate catastrophe, deportation, discrimination, and endless war. He continues to deny the existence of climate change, in spite of all the evidence, putting the future of the whole human race at stake.”
“The KKK, Vladimir Putin, Golden Dawn, and the Islamic State all cheered his victory. If we let his inauguration go unchallenged, we are opening the door to the future they envision.”
“Trump’s success confirms the bankruptcy of representative democracy. Rather than using the democratic process as an alibi for inaction, we must show that no election could legitimize his agenda.”
“Neither the Democrats nor any other political party or politician will save us – they just offer a weaker version of the same thing. If there is going to be positive change in this society, we have to make it ourselves, together, through direct action.”
“From day one, the Trump presidency will be a disaster. #DisruptJ20 will be the start of the resistance. We must take to the streets and protest, blockade, disrupt, intervene, sit in, walk out, rise up, and make more noise and good trouble than the establishment can bear.”
“The parade must be stopped. We must delegitimize Trump and all he represents. It’s time to defend ourselves, our loved ones, and the world that sustains us as if our lives depend on it -because they do.”
“(Washington) DC will not be hospitable to the Trump administration. Every corporation must openly declare whether they side with him or with the people who will suffer at his hands. Thousands will converge and demonstrate resistance to the Trump regime. Save the date. A website will appear shortly with more details. #DisruptJ20
Around the US
If you can’t make it to Washington, DC on January 20, take to the streets wherever you are. We call on our comrades to organize demonstrations and other actions for the night of January 20. There is also a call for a general strike to take place.”
“Organize a walkout at your school now. Workers: call out sick and take the day off. No work, no school, no shopping, no housework. #DisruptJ20
Around the World”
“If you are living outside the US, you can take action at US embassies, borders, or other symbols of neocolonial power. Our allegiance is not to ‘making America great again,’ but to all of humanity and the planet. #DisruptJ20
Spread the word. Join the fight. #DisruptJ20
